What is Homeopathy?
Origins
Homeopathy dates back many thousands of years to the thoughts of Paracelsus in the Sixteenth century and even further back to the ideas of the Greek philosopher and Doctor, Hippocrates. However it was not until Samuel Hahnemann brought all of these thoughts and philosophies together in the early 1800’s that it was all drawn together under the banner of what is now known as Homeopathy.
What homeopathy is and what it treats
Homeopathy is a very complete system of medicine taking into account not only the physical symptoms that the person is suffering, but also the mental and emotional factors too. All are given equal measure in the reaching of a prescription. All these parts lead us to understand the whole, and it is a medicine to treat the whole person.

It is a medicine that can treat acute illness but also a medicine that when used constitutionally helps lead us through the layers to the deeper causes of suffering and thus address the long term health of the person. It is non-toxic to the person and therefore to the environment. In this medicine we address the susceptibility of a person’s health .As each person will experience a flu differently for example, they will also experience emotional traumas distinctly, and this will tell us about their health susceptibilities. Alot of these are inherited through family health genetics or can be exacerbated or created through the many influences both physical and mental/emotional on a person’s life.
How homeopaths work
Homeopaths recognise we each have a different set of circumstances and a different outlook on life and this is key to the individual approach we take in homeopathy .The person , the individual approach ,is a very special part of this medicine .As no two people express illness exactly in the same way ,no two prescriptions are exactly the same.
Principles of Homeopathy
Homeopathy works on many principals- one of them is a cornerstone of the medicine – that Like Cures Like (Similia Similibus Curantur) – this dates back to Hippocrates. The idea behind this is that when a substance in nature is given to a healthy person and that causes specific symptoms, the same substance will help an ill person suffering from those exact same symptoms .In the Materia Medica we have thousands of remedies at our disposal to match the symptomology of the illness and to find the remedies that would support that persons vitality the most. A complex system, a complete system and treats the person as a whole. It really is a medicine for our time.
